||We receive wonderful letters. Here are some excerpts we thought you'd enjoy reading:
"I cannot adequately express what a wonderful teaching tool it has been for my students.
"My students range in age and development from pre-K to sixth grade. Many are severely learning disabled and lack the experiences most children are offered. Each class I read the book to got excited about the animals. They became so involved with the dialog they could almost tell me what each one said when we were through reading.
"I was so pleased to find a book that is not only beautiful, but motivating and positive. For children who spend their days simply trying to survive, your book brought out feelings for the animals, snowman and the children in the story. I was so pleased to hear the varied thoughts provoked by the story and pictures, it was indeed touching."

". . . One of her favorites is the Owl of Many Questions and the line "I'll take the lead." She is just a little book lover. How fun it is to share a book like yours with them.
"We have a 6 month old son who we bought the book for, however, we as his parents love it. It is an awesome book. We thank you for creating it so we can teach our son about the wonderfulness of nature. We have been reading it to him many times since we bought it yesterday. You have captured our hearts. Thank you for your work."
"My six year old thought you 'drew real good.' I told her they were photographs. She couldn't believe you were so close to the animals. My ten year old thought it was 'real cool' and couldn't wait to take it to her 5th grade class to the next day."
"My children like to peek back at the trail in the snow, when at the end of the book all the animals disappear back into the woods. They also like the way the children place seeds and the carrot back on the snowman in the end. It is a reason for the animals to return. And so we read the story again ... "
|"We have a couple of your photographs, a couple of your books and all my grandchildren have Stranger in the Woods, the book, video and cd.
"I also sent it to some friends in France to help their children learn English. The mother is American but the kids speak little English. I thought you might find this interesting. Every day I transport my 6 year old granddaughter to school for afternoon kindergarten. She wants to listen to the CD, Stranger in the Woods, every day and knows it by heart.
"The other day she said, 'I wish I knew the people who did this so I could ask them to make a spring or summer one so we could change it for the season.' I just thought you would find this interesting"

"I want to thank you for making my Christmas shopping a delightful experience! While in Omaha's Borders book store last week I browsed the juvenile selections looking for just the right book for our grandson who lives in Arizona. I must admit I had something like a Base book in mind. Then I saw your book dedicated 'To those who protect wild places' ... and sat down promptly to turn the pages filled with wonderful photography and unfolded a sweet fantasy about a stranger in the woods. What a joy. What a perfect book to send to a little six-year-old who associates his grandfather's Nebraska land, 160 acres of timber tract near the Missouri River, as a nature preserve.
"What an exquisite book! The gorgeous photography and the perfect accompanying story are lovely for a child to enjoy, but breathtaking for an adult to appreciate and savor over and over. A book to treasure.
"I just had to write and thank you for sharing your artistry, imagination and beautiful photography with us in your book, Stranger in the Woods. I am 60 yrs old and bought the book for myself, not for a child....
